Liverpool Capital of Culture - The Peoples Opening 2008
On Friday the 11th January 2008, an estimated 50 000 people came to watch the Peoples Opening at St George's Hall in Liverpool.
Over 100 people including volunteers, aerialists, wall walkers and rooftop musicians performed on the rooftops of Liverpool City Centre and were kept safe by UK Rigging.
Safety sytems including trusses, which were craned onto the rooftops and catenery wires were installed prior to the event. Rigging chiefs were designated different areas and leading up to the event, the performers were taught the basic use of a full body harness and taken up to the rooftops. The rigging chiefs were responsible for ensuring the performers were clipped onto the safety systems correctly and stayed safe at all times throughout the performance.
