Cow Parade in Manchester
The Cow Parade in Manchester was a massive art exhibition of life sized cows. The cows that had been decorated by local artists, were to be suspended, fixed and secured to various objects around Mancheser without any damage being incurred to them or the structures they were suspended from.
UK Rigging took on this project. Initially, cows were vetted to ensure that they were fit and healthy enough to participate. This involved sample the cows being destruction tested in order to ascertain the loads that could be asserted on certain parts of the cow and how wind might affect the way they were rigged in some locations
Cows were then assessed and split into two groups; cows that had a fear of heights were deligated to lower positions throughout Manchester.
Fearless cows were allocated to higher locations. In the printworks, one brave cow was rigged to a platform using two long custom made pins, that were carefully inserted through the cows thorax and abdominal cavity.
Another two brave cows were rigged so they appeared to be climbing a lamp post on opposite sides and going in opposite directions.
An acrobatic cow decided he wanted to be rigged into a swinging position in the Arndale centre. This was a simple task for UK Rigging. However, the cow did complain about the effort he had to exert to keep himself in an upright position for such a long time!
A more intelligent bull chose a very scenic location. He was positioned half way up the side of a building so he could watch the excitement of Manchester everyday.
